Coin Shows
When going to collectible coin shows, you have to make sure that you are going to benefit from the show along with not shorting yourself either. Coin collecting is all about not shorting yourself and making a good investment so hopefully these tips on how to go about a coin show will help you out.
When looking to buy or sell coins you always want to make sure that you are going to do it the best way possible. Well the best way possible is by attending coin shows for a number of good reasons. The number one reason is that you get to see the coins in person.
1. Organization is important, so before you even go to a coin show you must have a list of all the coins that you have. This should be done for it you do plan on selling something and so you do not buy double of something. You should also have a separate list of coins that you are looking into buying.
2. Focus. Limit your hunt to two series, and if it is a small show, perhaps three. Some collectors try to collect a little bit of everything and end up with a hodge-podge of just stuff. If you collect Large Cents and Buffalo's, then spend your time looking for Large Cents and Buffalo's! If the show has an information program or brochure, check off each dealer you visit, and make notes as to the items you're interested.
3. Coin shows are more than just buying coins, but also making business connections. Coin collecting is an investment so you might as well get to know the dealers. The reason you want to do this is because one of them may be from your area. If you both mesh well, that means you now have a dealer that you can go to for coins.
4. With collecting coins, it is about doing your research and not rushing into an investment. So when you go to a coin show, do not be afraid to ask questions and compare coins. You want to make sure that you are making a good investment before just buying the coin and being let down later. When I say compare coins, I mean from price to size to everything.
5. Have choices. Some collectors go to a show to look for one coin. That one coin may not be available at the show you are attending. If you have attended three or four shows without finding that one coin, you may become discouraged and unhappy with collecting, by not adding to your collection. A good show is if you can make an addition to your collection, a great show is two or more additions or upgrades.
